Cheeseburgers in Paw-ridise

My fur babies are in hound heaven when I make this simple and healthy recipe for a grilled open faced hamburger with spinach, carrots, egg, rice, a Secret Sauce and their favorite cheese. Fight the temptation to add any salt or seasonings; the natural flavors of the meat cooked to medium temperature and the crunchy sweetness of the veggies are what your dog thinks is delicious.

Ingredients
1/2 pound Lean Ground Beef, Turkey or Chicken
1 egg beaten
1/4 cup brown rice
1/4 cup carrot chopped or slivered
1/2 burger bun
1/4 Cup Spinach
1 Tbs Super Sauce

Directions

  1. Combine meat, egg, carrots and rice.

  2. Shape into two balls.

  3. Flatten each ball until you’ve created a uniform, 1-inch-thick patty. Use your thumb to make an indentation in the top of the patty to avoid shrinkage.

  4. Preheat the grill to medium-high. If you don’t have a grill, heat a pan or cast-iron skillet on the stove.

  5. Place the patties on the grill or skillet, indentation-side up, until the patty has good grill marks about 5 minutes. Flip and cook until marked and slightly firm, about 3 more minutes for medium doneness.

  6. For cheeseburger, top with 1 slice of cheese during the last minute of cooking; cover the grill to melt.

  7. Assemble burgers, starting off with bottom bun, spinach and burger patty. I like to top with some extra Super Sauce and carrot slivers.

  8. Serve on a pet-safe plate or in a dog bowl and let your fur baby dig in!
