Cool Down with Pup-sicles
The summer sun and humidity can be brutal and we can all use a little something to cool us down—even our pups. So, I like to make frozen treats filled with real fruit and vegetables for Mercedes and Lady Zsa Zsa called Pup-sicles!
Because my pups are different sizes, I use dog treat molds for Zsa-Zsa and regular popsicle molds for Mercedes. There’s no need to add sugar or other sweeteners because whole foods like fruits, veggies, peanut butter, bone broth and greek yogurt have enough flavor to please my girls. Besides, sugar isn’t good for dogs and can actually cause them to overheat. And artificial sweeteners contain dangerous additives that are toxic to dogs.
These Pup-sicles are easy to make and nutritious. I use two simple ingredients—carrots and watermelon. Both have vitamin A and are low in calories. Watermelon has vitamin B6 and C, which is always good for pups, and it also provides incredible hydration because it contains 50% water.
Ready to make some Pup-sicles?
Directions:
Peel and roughly chop 2 carrots.
Seed, remove rind and roughly chop 1/2 wedge of watermelon.
Add carrots to blender or food processor.
Pulse to chop carrots to a fine shred.
Add watermelon and puree until smooth.
Pour into your molds.
Freeze for two hours or until frozen.
This treat is versatile, too, because it’s great for the pups, kids and I even like to add one to my water to infuse it with flavor. So, I hope you and yours enjoy this cool treat!
Stay cool. Amy
